Wildfire, Watchtowers
Publicis Toronto
Client: Rogers
Wildfires are increasing in scale and intensity across Canada, putting lives, communities, and ecosystems at risk. Traditional detection methods—planes, lookout towers, satellites, are costly and often too slow to prevent disaster. Rogers, in partnership with SenseNet, reimagined its existing telecom infrastructure as part of the solution.
The idea was simple yet groundbreaking: transform mobile towers into an AI-powered wildfire detection network. Equipped with advanced sensors, each tower continuously monitors environmental conditions detecting smoke, heat, and air quality changes; and uses AI to analyze the data in real time. When danger is identified, alerts are sent directly to emergency services within minutes, drastically reducing response times. By turning infrastructure for connectivity into a climate action tool, Rogers proved that technology can serve both people and the planet. The work reframed what a communications company can contribute, providing safety, sustainability, and leadership in climate resilience.
