EL CARIBBEAN ES OTRA COSA
Remezcla Agency
Client: Major League Baseball
To a Brooklyn passerby, Toñita’s Caribbean Social Club looks like a hole-in-the-wall for a beer and pool game. But for the Latine community, its cultural significance runs deep.
Founded in 1973, Toñita’s is one of the last remaining Latino social clubs in Nueva York — a third space where generations of the city’s Latine diaspora gather to dance, debate, and celebrate the spirit of community that béisbol helped ignite. This mini-documentary, produced by Major League Baseball and The Remezcla Agency, tells the story of Toñitas through the voices of those who built it, capturing how baseball became a language of connection, belonging, and hope. Directed by Lorena Durán, the film features archival footage, intimate interviews, and the emotional return of Toñita’s original Caribbean baseball team to the field after nearly fifty years. This project is part of MLB’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the stories and communities that shape the game.
